Behind the Scenes
Behind the scenes was a story in itself. My mother (who considers Aunt Paulette her mom and has been loved as a daughter by Aunt Paulette) and father had planned the gala for months. The hours and hours of work and love they had put into making the party to the standard that our aunt deserved. All was coming together when two weeks before the party my father had a stroke. We were all heart broken that this left Mom and Dad unable to attend. Mom asked Gigi and me to step in. Of course without hesitation we jumped in. The only worry for us was could we pull a party off like Jackie and Paulette would. For two sisters this was a tremendous bond and of course Aunt Paulette jumped in to supervise.
The "Gift"
The greatest present of all was the night before the party. Gigi and I had spent the week with Aunt Paulette, telling stories and even shedding a few tears. But to Aunt Paulette’s surprise the greatest gift arrived. Mom walked into the room to be at the party. Paulette, Jackie, Vera, Gigi and I huddled together and cried. FAMILY. It was a magical party.
